Welcome to my AIDS Walk 2017 Fundraising Page!
Please Help Me Reach My Fundraising Goal!
Once again, I am participating in the Boston AIDS Walk to raise money for AIDS Action Committee. I am hoping you will be able to contribute to this important cause, and help me reach my fundraising goal.
This year I have set an even more ambitious goal, due to an honor that I am being given by the organizers of the walk, the Heros in Action Award, which will be bestowed at the start of Walk on June 4. I am humbled and somewhat embarrassed by this, as there are many people far more deserving than I, but am hoping to make myself more worthy of this recognition by doing even more to raise funds this year.
As many of you know, for more than a decade, our research group has been one of the top 10 fundraisers for this effort each year, and we remain committed to providing support at this level.
There have been great gains in dealing with the HIV epidemic at home and abroad, but it is far from over. Importantly, those affected the most now are the most marginalized and disenfranchised in each society, whether it be in Africa or in urban or rural America. The goal of the AIDS Walk is to raise much needed support for those whose lives are in most need of structure, and through that to not only bring them health but also bring them back into society.
I have committed my professional life to working to understand how the body's immune system fights HIV, and we are making progress, and I am confident that we will ultimately have a vaccine to end the epidemic. Indeed, the Ragon Institute is sponsoring an efficacy trial of our lead vaccine candidate developed by Dan Barouch, one of the founding members of the Ragon Institute. This trial will begin in the latter part of 2017, and we could not be more excited to see this moving forward.
As the scientific community continues to work toward the goal of an HIV vaccine, I have committed significant effort to working in South Africa, at the heart of the epidemic, but feel all of us must not forget those living within walking distance, whose lives continue to be crushed by this epidemic.
I hope you will be able to help support us--any amount is greatly appreciated and will help to make a difference in the lives of people in need. And I am happy to help support your favorite fundraising walk in return!
Best regards and many thanks, Bruce
