Welcome to my AIDS Walk & 5K Run Fundraising Page!
Please Help Me Reach My Fundraising Goal!
I'm walking to honor my brother, Donge Zedo John Haber who died of AIDS in 1992. Since then you have contributed more than $50,000 in his honor by sponsoring me on these walks.
My brother was an opera director who worked in many theaters across the US and was also director of the Opera Program at Boston University. My favorite of all his productions was the staging of Monteverdi's "The Coronation of Poppea" with jazz singers and electronic instruments in a disco in New York City. In the mid-1980s, after he found that he was HIV-positive, he became more and more interested in Zen Buddhist practice which he felt kept him strong. He left BU and became an ordained monk affilitated with the Zen Studies Center in New York City and its zendo Dai Bosatsu Zendo Kongo-ji in upstate New York. He counseled and taught many people with HIV over the years before his death.
He also kept a remarkable journal of his life and work. In 2015 we donated these volumes to the New York Public Library's branch at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. They are a wonderful resource for people interested in the gay scene in New York City in the 70's and 80's and I hope someone will use them. Nearly all of his circle of friends died of AIDS.
Each dollar you donate helps AIDS Action Committee fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. You'll be supporting their vital prevention efforts anddirect services to people living with HIV. Thanks for your continued support
